Nour's Secret Library by Wafa' Tarnowska

Nour's Secret Library by Wafa' Tarnowska

AUTHOR: KRISTEN OBARSKY

Nour’s Secret Library, written by Wafa’ Tarnowska and illustrated by Vali Mintzi, is a beautifully illustrated, heartfelt story that gives a sense of perseverance, resilience, and adventure even in the most challenging situations.

The story takes place in the historical and fragrant city of Damascus. Two cousins, Amir and Nour, want to start a secret society, and when the war starts, the kids embark on a journey to compile a massive “secret” library. The secret library becomes a beacon of hope for the whole community, even in the darkest times.

I was really touched by the artistry, the respectfulness of the words, and the hope that they gave me. The story is based on a real secret library created during the Syrian War that started in 2011.
