Sadiq and the Ramadan Gift by Siman Nuurali is a delightful early chapter book full of charm. Nuurali 's story is authentic and explores cultural and religious aspects of the blessed month, such as specific charity projects and the popular iftar fundraisers commonly associated with the month. In this story, Sadiq and his friends struggle but succeed in organizing a fundraising event during an iftar. I appreciate that the author created characters with agency who deal with inevitable obstacles and take initiative to ultimately triumph.
Sadiq is a captivating protagonist whose adventures are enjoyable. The story’s illustrations are also thoughtful, adding to the reading experience. After reading this story, I am eager to explore more of Sadiq’s stories.
