Class Description: 

This is a study of the science of tajwīd accompanied by an instructor-led recitation of Juzʾ ʿAmma. This is a two-part course:

1. Students will gain an understanding of introductory tajwīd concepts (including points of articulation – makhārij– and letter attributes – ṣifāt). By the end of the course, students will have an understanding of the sounds of the Arabic language and their attributes, identify how the sounds are formed, and pronounce them with confidence.

2. Students will implement the theory by reading passages of the Quran and receive individualized feedback from the instructor. This part of the course will be complete when the student has demonstrated the ability to read Juz’ ‘Amma and pronounce each letter correctly.

Through daily reading and listening assignments, students will develop fluency and accuracy in reading the Holy Quran. 

This class is for students who can read the Quran in Arabic but have little or no understanding of the Arabic language.
